OUR FELLOWS
Learning and working with Germany's leading scientists
Embedded in a nationwide network of leading scientists, our PhD candidates are pursuing their PhDs at the three Max Planck Schools within the framework of unique and highly interdisciplinary faculties. Each faculty consists of 50 so-called Fellows, who are selected on the basis of a competitive process and appointed by the Steering Committee of the Max Planck Schools for a period of four years. Reappointment is possible up to two times.
The Max Planck Schools bring together non-university and university scientists to form a national research network that extends far beyond organizational or disciplinary boundaries. Our Fellows are exceptional researchers who are keen to support and mentor international talents at an early stage in their careers. With their stellar expertise, they provide high-level and close supervision for PhD candidates and provide acess to first-class research infrasturctures already at undergraduate level. Driven by curiosity to explore previously unknown areas and address complex research questions, our Fellows, together with the PhD candidates, open up new topics and enable scientific exchange at the highest level. At the same time, the Schools also strengthen a regular and fruitful exchange between the Fellows and the PhD candidates with various events, for everyone to benefit equally from this unique knowledge network. Together with our PhD candidates, the Fellows form the foundation of every School.
The competitive selection process every four years ensures that the faculties of the Max Planck Schools are always composed of the most innovative minds in Germany and that our PhD candidates work together with extremely dedicated mentors and most innovative teachers in their fields.
In turn, our Fellows benefit from access to ambitious, international PhD candidates as well as networking with other Fellows of the Schools and the program as a whole. This has already led to a wide range of collaborations that would often not have come about without the opportunity to meet as part of the Schools program.
